Do I need to learn scales to play lead guitar?

You can learn solos without knowing and then later go back to get familiar with which scale the solo comes from. The most important thing is having fun with it! Knowing the scale will increase your fun because you can make up your own ideas from it! Knowing the chords helps hugely too!!
